Helaine and the Hurricanes Bio
Helaine and the Hurricanes formed in Hollywood, CA in 2018 when frontwoman, Helaine, embraced two contradictory loves: punk rock, and girly-ness. Since then, they have flipped the script on what you thought you knew about punk. By throwing a middle finger up to “being what they’re supposed to be,” and unapologetically embracing who they are, they have shown audiences in Hollywood and beyond just how badass girly-punk can be.
Their first single, “Before the Summer’s Over,” along with their forthcoming debut-EP, are heavily influenced by where they’re from – Hollywood, CA. Nowhere is as glossy & trashy at the same time, and that oxymoron frames their “bubblegum-surf-punk” sound. They pack a knock-out punch with the hard-hitting sounds of punk rock, infused with the catchy hooks and girly themes of bubblegum-pop…plus a splash of surf. Think Hole meets The Beach Boys.
They’re thrilled to release their second single, “Beach Body,” on August 16th, with a video directed by award-winning photographer/videographer, Amanda Rowan. Then, on September 21st, the band will release their self-titled debut-EP, produced by Tom Biller (Kate Nash, Warpaint, Karen O). They are extremely grateful to their passionate fans, who helped fund a Kickstarter campaign for their upcoming EP that hit it’s goal in less than 24 hours!
To celebrate the release of their EP – after playing gigs across across Los Angeles over the past year – they’re setting out on a regional tour throughout Southern California in September, 2019.
Now, they have just have one question for you…Do you want to find out how badass girly-punk can be?
